What the South Wind Says

This project addresses, in the metaphoric and parabolic language of poetry, relations among the elements of the natural world and the living landscapes in which all life occurs. As we go about our daily human business in constructed environments, we can forget and fail to see the natural world within and all around us of which we are inescapably a part - a world of enormous variety that is always changing, always in
motion, always hiding some things and revealing others.

In 2021, Bhavna and Diane donated this work to the University of Arizona, Poetry Center in Tucson. It is now part of their Artist Books collection.
Bhavna collaborated with Poet Diane Gage to make these books. We worked together on the design concepts and on adapting the poem to the design parameters. Bhavna did the cutting and folding and Diane the embroidery, eventually with the valuable assistance of Bhavna’s niece Aditi Mehta. The six books are stored in a custom box made with the help of Dawn Gasca. The books and box were made in 2015.
